What’s So Important About Studying the Bible?
It familiarizes us with, and helps us grasp, the whole story of Scripture, and it keeps our souls energized. But Bible study deepens and expands our understanding of specific Bible passages; it helps us sort through hard concepts and gives insight into the context of the Bible.
The Bible isn’t an easy book. It was written by God in an ancient time through people of different languages and cultures than our own, whose immediate audiences were different from us in many ways. It’s also a book written by God about God and the work he’s doing in the world.
A work by such a divine Author, on such an immense topic, should be difficult to fully comprehend. So we’ll need to study and wrestle with God’s words—but it’s worth it, and here are five reasons why:
1. Bible study illuminates our daily reading.
2. Bible study protects us from twisting the truth.
3. Bible study amplifies our service.
4. Bible study opens our understanding.
5. Bible study deepens our devotion to Christ.

When God brought His people out of slavery in Egypt and into Canaan, He gave them a rich and fertile land. Of all that they produced on this good land, God required that they give the first tenth to Him. This was called "the tithe." The word "tithe" means "the tenth."
The purpose of the tithe was to remind the people of God's ownership of all things and to teach them to put God first in their lives. God is exceedingly generous. He allowed them to keep nine-tenths of all that they produced, but the tithe, or first tenth, belonged to Him. The Bible says, "All the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's; it is holy unto the Lord." Leviticus 27:30
In addition to their tithes, God's people gave free-will offerings. The tithes and offerings were given to the priests of God. This was the means by which they lived since they had no land of their own. God's people were told to bring their tithes and offerings when they came to worship God. God said, "…they shall not appear before the Lord empty-handed. Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you." Deuteronomy 16:16-17 (NKJV)
God was teaching His people to give. When they gave freely to God, God gave them abundant crops. The Bible says, "Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty…" Proverbs 3:9-10
WELCOMING YOU
First Union Missionary Baptist Church is a bible based ministry nestled in the heart of the Chicago South Suburbs. Our mission is to guide lost souls to Jesus while remaining a beacon of light and hope to the community. In 2017 we pursued and continue this mission by putting “Love in Action as Our New Normal.” We pour out our love towards you on purpose. We pray that you feel the love as you encounter the First Union Family. It is our hope and desire that your virtual experience ministers to you to the point that you would consider joining with us by accepting Jesus as you Lord and Savior; partnering with our ministry, uniting with our family of faith, donating to our ministry endeavors and/or joining with us in one of our live services.

MINISTRIES
Our mindset is to carry out the directives charged to us in the bible. Ministry and Ministry leaders at First Union are seen as servants. We find that 1 Peter 5:1-4 is one of many scriptures that order each ministry worker to maintain a Spirit of excellence and a way of servant-hood:
1 Peter 5:1 "The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away."

WE NEED YOU TO BECOME A PART OF US AND HELP US TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL THROUGH OUR LOVE AND FAITH
Romans 1:16 - For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
