Dexter Cannon is a native of Greenwood, South Carolina and currently resides
in Richmond, VA. Rev. Cannon comes from a line of men and women called
to the preaching ministry. Pastor Cannon accepted Christ as a teenager and
accepted his “call to ministry” shortly after college. While
working as a Teacher/Coach in the South Carolina public school system,
he sensed the call to further prepare himself for full-time ministry and
relocated to Virginia.
Pastor Cannon is a graduate of South Carolina State University with a Bachelor
of Science degree in Physical Education and Health. He is also a graduate of
the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, where
he obtained a Master of Divinity Degree. He is currently pursuing the Doctor
of Ministry Degree in Preaching and Leadership at United Theological Seminary
in Dayton, Ohio.
Prior to being called to serve as Pastor of the First Union Baptist Church of
Mechanicsville, Virginia, he served as the Director of Men's Ministry of the
Baptist General Convention of Virginia and Youth Minister of two Richmond area
churches. Along with being a Pastor, his ministry spreads abroad. He
has been described as "wise beyond his years" and able to connect with
all ages.
Pastor Cannon serves as an officer for the National Baptist Convention USA Inc.,
Baptist General Convention of Virginia, Chickahominy Baptist Association, and
the Baptist Ministers Conference of Richmond and Vicinity.
Pastor Cannon believes that salvation enhanced by education will lead to personal
transformation and it is through God’s elevation that we can all rise above
our situation.
